Volunteer applications for the 2011 festival are not available yet.
Below is the volunteer information for the 2010 festival to give you a tast of what may be in stor for our next exciting festival....

P

alm Creek Folk Festival would not exist without volunteers. The organisers of this Festival are all volunteers themselves, but there aren’t enough of us to make this Festival a success without the help of all the very special people who offer their time to bring the Festival into being and work throughout the Festival to ensure everyone has a good time. So each year we rely on volunteers in various capacities and job descriptions are listed below.

Apart from offering an opportunity to meet new people, volunteering gives you a great feeling of self-satisfaction from knowing that you have helped everyone who comes to our Festival have a wonderful weekend. Also, as our way of saying thank-you for giving your time to help us bring the Palm Creek Festival to the broader community we offer our Volunteers free or discounted admission.

Volunteering for 8 hours over the festival weekend will entitle you to one free adult weekend ticket including camping.

Volunteering for 4 hours will entitle you to one half price weekend adult ticket (with camping) at our current early bird rate. So you will only need to pay $50.00.

Many volunteers have such a good time that they volunteer year after year and have become almost permanent staff at different departments of our Festival. Because these volunteers have experience and know the work required, there may be some departments that have already filled their necessary quota of volunteers or only need to recruit a few new volunteers.

However, in the beginning planning stages of each year’s festival, there are always some vacancies somewhere so don’t let this put you off applying. But it’s best if you get your application in early. And please don’t be too disappointed if you are offered a role other than your preferred choice.

This happens every year and many volunteers who have accepted an offer in a department they had not initially considered are surprised to find h ow much they enjoyed it. And who knows? You may end up enjoying it so much that you may also end up becoming a regular volunteer at our Festival.

If you would like to volunteer and becoming part of our team please register your interest by filling in our on-line application form.

We will answer every application & get back to you very shortly regarding availability of both positions and shift times.

Please note: If you wish to volunteer you need to do so before the festival.
We will not accept volunteer applications at the gate.

Volunteer Areas

If you have volunteered in the past and worked at the bar, then please note: Alcohol will not be served at the Festival this year.
We anticipate that all Festival attendants will exercise responsible drinking behaviour at our "family friendly" event.

CHILDRENS FESTIVAL

Goodo

Description: The Children's Area / Festival is a safe space that recognizes the important presence of families and children at our festival. The volunteers of this area are energetic, mature, and have a desire to instil the Palm Creek spirit into all of the children who come into the area, be it through crafts, music and/or a workshop. Responsibilities include engaging with children and enticing them towards the various option in the children's area; running activities, playing with children and supporting the workshop/performers. Expect to get dirty and leave with a smile!

THE GATE

Coordinators: Bill & Janet

Tasks: Taking tickets and putting wristbands on patrons, checking in VIPs, etc. Limited money handling required.

Description: Working the gate is the least popular job at the Festival so if you are serious about being a volunteer you will almost certainly find a vacancy here!
But despite its unpopularity, this position is well suited to someone who likes working with others in a busy area with lots of laughter and fun. You get to work with a great crew of people, and once you get into the swing of it you may be surprised to find how much you enjoy the buzz of working such a fast-paced position.
Duties include taking tickets and putting wristbands on people. They can also include checking IDs and some cash handling positions. Bill & Janet will explain all this to you at the beginning of your shift. They will also be there to help you if something you are unsure about crops up.
Because you may also be working with written lists of Festival Musicians and other Festival VIPs, you do need to be able to read and write English and have good communication skills.
Apart from that, the main qualities needed to enjoy working at the gate are good people skills, the abilities to process information and think quickly and to keep your cool under pressure.

Vols

SITE
Coordinator:
Laurie B

Tasks: Set-up, maintain and pull down our festival site.

Hours: There are positions available on the set-up crew which begins on the Thursday. There are also positions available on the maintenance crew which works over the weekend. As well, there are positions available on the Monday for the pull- it- all- down- again crew

Description: Our site department equips and maintains the various areas of the festival with all essential items necessary for each to run efficiently and effectively. So, we have teams working before, during and after the festival in order to  set up, maintain and take down the physical elements of the festival - tents, stages, lights etc.
While the work does require some physical labour, it is also a great job. You will be working and sharing a laugh with a fantastic group of people.
Laurie will meet you at the festival and explain your role and introduce you to the other members of your team.
Requirements: Must wear closed in shoes during load in and load out of festival. May be required to lift heavy equipment.

PEACEKEEPER
Description:
The role of Peacekeeper requires a mature, rational, calm and responsible individual who will be helpful and friendly at all times.
This position does not require any more than being alert and observant and communicating any potential problems or behaviour that is anti-social or posing a threat to the safety and comfort of our guests to our paid Security Team.
Under no circumstances is this role an interventionist one. That’s what we pay our Security Guards for. But they can’t be everywhere at once, so basically our Peacekeepers are like their ears and eyes and call them to come when needed and do what we pay them for.
You will be introduced to our paid Security Team before your shift and provided with phone numbers and a means of communication or reimbursed for using your own mobile phone.

Each year at our Festival we try to present a range of interesting hands-on workshops and classes, where people who have a special skill or talent share their knowledge with others.

Workshops usually run for an hour to an hour and a half and are written into and included on our Festival programme. Because of the intense nature of conducting a workshop, and because workshops are free to all those who choose to attend, workshop presenters are not expected to complete the same voluntary time requirement as other volunteers to qualify for free or discounted entry.

  • Children’s Festival Workshops
Co-ordinator: Leesa & Goodo.
Got a great skill or talent which you can demonstrate or help the littlies do themselves and which will put a smile on their faces? Then we’d love to hear from you!
  • Adult Festival Workshops

Co-ordinator: Programming Department
While the workshops we present to our adult visitors can be music related and include such things as special playing techniques, instrument making or even song writing, we really look for diversity here.
Some things that come to mind are belly-dancing, paper-making, kite-making, massage and aromatherapy. But there are many others. If you have a special skill or talent and are happy to share we would love to hear from you.
However we do understand that some craft classes are hands-on and involve providing the participants with materials. We don’t expect anyone to be out of pocket for providing any necessary materials and in this circumstance the norm is for the presenter to recoup the cost of materials from the people who attend. As a guide, experience has told us that realistically, a material charge should be no more than $5 to $10 per person.
